By Jennifer Willenson

Have you ever wondered how the celebrities and athletes get their gorgeous bodies? Many of these individuals have private instructors and they participate in a exercise regiment known as Stott Pilates.

We all want bodies like the stars and athletes without the financial burden of a personal trainer. There is an answer to this dilemma. Since we know that most of the celebrities and athletes are using the Pilates form of exercise we can do the same in the convenience of our own home just like the stars with the aid of a Stott Pilates DVD.

Stott Pilates was developed in 1980 by a man named Joseph Pilates. There are constant improvements being made to the original Stott Pilates by two individuals Moira and Lindsay G. Merrithew. Moria was trained under one of Joseph Pilates proteges and Lindsay produced her first piece of equipment called the Reformer.

The original metal Pilates equipment was limited in motion and was very expensive and hard to find; therefore Lindsay designed a reproduction of the metal version in wood. Lindsay also added some modifications making the equipment more user friendly and allowing for more mobility. The first reproduced version is known as the Reformer. It has since been modernized and additional modifications have been added making it adjustable to fit different heights and sizes.

Pilates is used for mind and total body conditioning. It is made up of 500 different exercises that are used to increase flexibility, tone muscle and relieve stress. Pilates does not cause bulking of the muscles, it produced long, leaner muscle tone. Pilates does not focus on the quantity of exercise but on the quality of the exercise.

Pilates is an excellent form of exercise for everyone. It can be used by young and old, fat or skinny, strong or weak individuals. The beauty of Pilates is that it can be customized to fit individual needs since it is a combination of exercise and therapy. When Pilates is utilized it creates a sense of invigoration instead of the usual exhaustion regular exercise tends to provide.

One on one Pilates instruction from a professional Pilates instructor is the best method to learn the proper techniques but not many of us can afford a personal trainer. The alternative to personal one on one Pilates training is group sessions that is available at local gyms or if you prefer you can learn Pilates through a DVD or video.

Pilates is offered in a variety of versions. Commonly new Pilates beginners start off with the use of a mat and once comfortable with the techniques, move on to using the equipment or the more difficult movements. No matter what level you desire, Pilates will work for you.

Stott Pilates is attractive for so many different reasons. It has helped a lot of people and will help you to. If you are looking for a low impact, energizing workout to help you feel better and relief some stress then give Stott Pilates a try. Buy the Stott Pilates DVD and learn the techniques in the privacy of your own home or get a group together and have a Pilates workout session. You will not be disappointed with this form of toning and exercise. - 30514
